Music Video Planning - Genre

The song I am using to create a video is called "Icarus" written and composed by my father, Ian Clarke; his band is named "Death & Taxis" He creates all the components (including vocals) necessary to create a piece of music. Although it would be difficult to match a specific genre to his music, I feel his main intention is to produce political messages through his work.

His songs produce an electronic/rock instrumental sound with a deep/dark vocal addition. I feel creating a simple video will put more emphasis on the messages produced in the music, however I am looking to add in scenes showing relative catasrophes in conjunction to the topics he sings about. This will suggest there is deeper meaning within the sound of the music meaning more concentration will be placed into recognising the discussed issues.

Electronic Genre
This is music that employs electronic musical instruments and electronic music technology in its production. In general a distinction can be made between sound produced using electromechanical means and that produced using electronic technology. Electronic has many sub-genres meaning it can have a wide range of audiences. I believe today the typical audience for electronic sound would be teenagers as it can sound modern and very computer-editied which would give teenagers a specific interest in the sound it creates.

Rock Genre
Musically, rock has centred around the electric guitar usually as part of a rock group with bass guitar and drums. Typically, rock is song-based music with a 4/4 beat lyrics and often stress romantic love but also address a wide variety of other themes that are frequently social or political in emphasis. Rock typically falls into hundreds of sub-genres that define it's audience. However, it has been suggested men show more of an interest in rock music than women.

After researching into each of these genres and bands I feel "Death and Taxis" does not fit into one genre, so I am going to create a video that will fit into both.
